Old presidential palace, 1916 Damascus

Photograph, 1916-1918 (Ottoman Period) of Mustapha Pasha al-Abed's Palace at the slope of Mount Qasioun overlooking the old city of Damascus. The Abeds were a prominent Damascene family with strong connections to the Ottoman Ruling Elites, owning traditional mansions in the old city in suq Saruja and in the Midan district. The Palace served as the Syrian Presidential Palace, replaced later by the close-by Nazim Pashas's Palace in the Muhajirin district. The House was demolished in the 1950's. [Damascus by Dr.K.Shihabi]
